This Policy explains how cookies and comparable technologies are used on pwerks.com and the digital properties operated by PixelWerks, Inc. It supplements Volume I of the PixelWerks Governance Series, the Privacy Policy, which describes how information is handled more generally.
The PixelWerks Governance Series establishes the policies, standards, and operating principles governing the company's digital properties and public-facing interactions.
Together these documents provide the legal and operational framework supporting the PixelWerks digital ecosystem while reflecting the company's commitment to transparency, responsible stewardship, security, accessibility, and respect for intellectual property.
Each volume is maintained under version control and may evolve as PixelWerks introduces new products, services, and digital capabilities.
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website you visit. It allows the site to recognize your device on a subsequent page or a later visit and to record limited information about that visit.
Cookies are described as session cookies when they are deleted as soon as you close your browser, and as persistent cookies when they remain on your device for a defined period. They are described as first party when set by the site you are visiting and third party when set by another domain called by that site.
This Policy uses the word cookie to include comparable technologies that perform the same functions, such as pixels, tags, local storage, and software development kits.
PixelWerks uses three categories of cookie.
Strictly necessary cookies allow the site to operate. They support page delivery, load balancing, security and fraud prevention, and the recording of your cookie choices. The site cannot function properly without them, and they are used without consent as permitted by law.
Analytics cookies measure how the site is used. They are described in Section 3.
Preference cookies remember choices you have made. They are described in Section 4.
PixelWerks does not use advertising cookies, and does not permit advertising networks to place tracking technologies on the site for the purpose of targeted advertising.
Analytics cookies record which pages are visited, how visitors arrive at the site, which pages are viewed in sequence, how long a visit lasts, what device and browser are in use, and the general geographic region of the visitor.
PixelWerks uses this information to understand which material is useful, to identify pages that are not performing as intended, and to make the site better. It is read in aggregate. PixelWerks does not use analytics cookies to identify an individual visitor, and does not combine analytics data with information submitted through a contact channel in order to construct a profile of an identified person.
Where an analytics technology offers Internet Protocol address truncation, shortened retention, or an equivalent privacy control, PixelWerks enables it. Analytics cookies are set only where you have consented, in every jurisdiction where consent is required.
Preference cookies remember choices you have made so that the site behaves consistently between pages and between visits. Examples include your cookie consent selections, your language or region, and display settings such as contrast or motion reduction.
Preference cookies hold your settings and nothing more. Declining them does not prevent you from using the site; it means the site will not remember your choices, and you may be asked to make them again.
Some cookies on the site are set by the service providers PixelWerks engages to operate it. These providers supply hosting and content delivery, security and traffic filtering, analytics, form processing, and, where the site embeds video or similar content, media playback.
These providers act on our instructions and are permitted to use the information they collect only to perform the function for which they were engaged. They are prohibited by contract from using it for their own purposes.
Embedded content served from another domain, such as a video player or a map, may set cookies of its own when the content loads. Where that applies, the operator of that service also acts as a controller of the information it collects, under its own policies.
You may set and change your cookie preferences at any time through the cookie controls provided on the site. Your choices are recorded and applied on subsequent visits, and may be revisited whenever you wish. Where consent is required, analytics and preference cookies are not set until you give it.
Every major browser also allows cookies to be blocked, limited to first party, or deleted, and offers a private browsing mode that discards them at the end of a session. These controls are found in the privacy or security settings of the browser and apply to every site you visit, not only this one.
Blocking strictly necessary cookies may cause parts of the site to stop working. Deleting cookies also deletes the record of the preferences you have set, and you will be asked for them again.
This Policy is version controlled. Each revision carries a version number and an effective date, and the revision history is recorded at the end of this document.
PixelWerks will revise this Policy as the site develops and as the technologies it uses change. Where a revision materially changes the categories of cookie in use or the basis on which they are set, notice will be posted on the site in advance of the effective date, and consent will be requested again where required.
